Fried rice (Indonesian style). Fried rice was originally created to avoid wasting leftover cooked rice. I believe its origins were from China and later adapted to other Asian countries. This Indonesian style with fried egg, shrimps and chicken ticks all the boxes with a marriage of flavours that will leave you wanting more.
It's a simple recipe, you won't need to hunt down any unusual ingredients, and it's one of my favourite Indonesian foods.

- Prepare 250 gr of rice (cooked, cold, break it up as much as you can).

- Prepare of Black pepper.

Nasi goreng, Indonesia's version of fried rice, gets a sweet-savory profile from kecap manis and a big hit of umami from shrimp paste. In addition to kecap manis, the country's ubiquitous sweet soy sauce, terasi (Indonesian shrimp paste) is what sets nasi goreng apart from other fried-rice variations you'll.
Fried rice (Indonesian style) instructions
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a skillet, add pork, season with salt & pepper, Allow it to brown on all sides..
- Move the pork to one side, add the shrimp, allow it to brown, on both sides..
- Move the shrimp to one side together with pork. Add the egg, scramble it well, and let it cooked until well done. Then, stir egg together with pork, and shrimp..
- Stir in garlic, and cabbage for about 3 minutes. Then add the rice, cook for a few minutes or until the rice starts developing some color..
- Add soy sauce, sesame oil, sweet soy sauce, oyster sauce, Chili paste, and chicken stock, stir well, and let it cooked until the rice absorbs the sauce and the moisture has cooked out..
- The last, stir in spring onion as garnish..

For a different take on a leftover classic, we created a recipe for Indonesian-style fried rice. We found everyday alternatives to traditional Indonesian ingredients and then tweaked the cooking process so that we could avoid cooking the ri. Whole almonds add beneficial monounsaturated fats to this version of Indonesian-style fried rice, made more healthful by the use of brown rice instead of white. Soy sauce has been substituted for the usual fish sauce to make the dish vegetarian-friendly. Keep stirring until all the ingredients are mixed and the rice is hot, about two to three minutes.
